Obituary for Charles E Baker

Charles Everett Baker was born on May 28, 1932 to Sam and Vesta (Taylor) Baker in Weeping Water, Nebraska. He graduated from Weeping Water high school on May 27, 1950.
In October, 1950 he enlisted in the Air Force at the time of the Korean War. He served at Hickam Air Force base in Honolulu, Hawaii for 3 years, and Dover, Delaware for one year. He had attained the rank of sergeant at his discharge on October 31, 1954.
On May 27, 1955, Charlie married Melpo Ellen Theodoras at the United Methodist church in Sulphur Grove, Ohio. They lived in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked at National Cash Register, until 1973. He enjoyed fishing at rocky fork lake, along with trap shooting, gardening, and watch and appliance repair. He liked having new cars. In 1973 the couple moved back to his hometown of Weeping Water. Charlie worked with his brothers in carpentry and as an electrician. He was also the maintenance director at the Weeping Water school for 4 years. In 1999 they moved to Papillion and then Bellevue. Charlie spent ten years as a school bus driver.
In November, 2009, the couple moved to the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue, where they resided at Charlie’s death, on June 25, 2018 at age the 86 years.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Melpo, sisters Margaret Peck of Blair, Nebraska, and Ruth Leidy of Norman, Oklahoma, aunt Martha Taylor of Crete, Nebraska, along with nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Ivan, Lewis and Dale.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday July 6, 2018 at Hammons Family Funeral Chapel 207 west H street Weeping Water
Interment at Oakwood cemetery in Weeping Water, Nebraska.
