Obituary for Eleanor Mae Irons (Lindsey)

Eleanor Mae Irons at the age of 85 was called to be with her heavenly father on August 14th, 2018 and died peacefully. Eleanor was one of three children born to Ralph J. and Twila M. Lindsey (Downs) on October 14th, 1932 on the family farm near Weeping Water. She lived her entire life in a five mile radius where she was born and died.
Eleanor graduated high school from Weeping Water High School in 1950 and then went on to complete 2 years of college at Peru State. She taught at Manley and Mt Pleasant Schools.
She met Henry at Church camp near Crete Nebraska in 1949 and they were married on October 19th, 1952 in Weeping Water Nebraska. They were married for 57 years until his death on July 14th, 2010. Of this marriage, three children were raised, Julie Mae, John Henry and Jenifer Twila. After teaching for a short time, she remained at home to raise the children and help with the chores and farming. When the kids got older, she worked for a while as a cook at the Platte River State Park and took care of some elderly people in Weeping Water at their homes.
She was a member of the Christian Church in Elmwood. She was a Worthy Adviser for the Order of the Rainbow Girls, was a 4H Leader for the Trial Riders for several years, served several years on the election board for the Weeping Water rural precinct, was a member of the Cascade Charity Club, served as president of the Christian Women Fellowship, Pianist, Sunday School Teacher, and Deaconess.In 1994 when Henry retired they would spent the winters in Florida and Texas. Eleanor loved flowers, gardening and being with family and friends. Eleanor will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Eleanor is survived by son John and spouse Lynn Irons of Raymond; 2 daughters, Julie and spouse Randall Jones of Syracuse and Jenifer Irons of Elmwood; 2 granddaughters, Jenna Jones-Halverson and Stefanie Jones; 2 step grandsons, Weston and spouse Ashley Shaw and Kraig and spouse Amanda Shaw; 1 great granddaughter, Saphira, 2 great grandsons, Jaxson and Bellamy and 1 step great grandson, Skyler; brother-in-law Ron and spouse Patsy Irons; sister-in-law Isabelle Linsdey; sister-in-law IvaKay Brown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and her Godson Bernard Geschke.
Eleanor is preceded in death by husband, Henry Irons; parents, Ralph and Twila Lindsey; sister, Edith Wiles; brother, Eugene Lindsey; and nephew, Ralph Wiles. A special thank you to the Good Samaritan Society and Asera Care Hospice for their care of her.
Funeral Services 10:30 am Friday 8/17/2018 at Elmwood Christian Church Elmwood Nebraska. Interment at Avoca Cemetery Avoca Nebraska Visitation Thursday 2-7 pm. with Family 5-7 pm at Hammons Family Funeral Chapel Weeping Water.
Memorial suggested to the Elmwood Christian Church and/or Good Samaritan Society and/or Asera Care Hospice.
